Your questions answered
How will my handmade silver jewellery come packaged?
Our packaging is plastic-free and made from recycled cardboard, all items will come in a beautiful branded Kysam Jewellery box, tied with ribbon and ready to give as a gift. You can pay a small extra fee (£3) and we can provide tissue paper and a gift bag to make it extra special.
What are the different types of finish on our Sterling Silver jewellery?
Jewellery finishing denotes the different techniques that provide the finishing details to precious metals. The methods include polishing techniques as well as chemical processes like oxidation. Each finish creates a unique look and shows off the metals differently.
Polished:
This is the polishing and buffing of the metal’s surface leaving a classic high sheen surface.
Matt or frosted:
This surface is achieved through light abrasion, where the piece is gently scuffed with fine abrasive compounds. Its muted appearance absorbs light rather than reflecting it, giving the jewellery a soft texture.
Brushed:
This finish is obtained by fine lines being etched into metal with a wire brush or abrasive pad. The outcome is a texture with striations that give personality to the item. Each line contributes to the individuality of the piece, giving the jewellery a unique appearance.
Hammered:
The hammered finish is achieved by striking the metals surface with a variety of hammers, this results in tiny, irregular indentations that trap and bounce light in unpredictable designs, creating an individual design to your jewellery piece.
Antique/Oxidised/Blackened:
This effect is achieved by darkening specific parts of the metal using a patina, resulting in increased contrast of the design elements.
Handmade items are crafted individually, so no two pieces are exactly the same. This uniqueness makes them feel special and personal.
What are the different Chain Styles you offer?
We offer a variety of different chains however, if there is a specific chain or length you would like please email and we will do our best to source it for you.
Belcher:
These chains are a popular variation of a cable chain, characterised by the alternation between round links and oval links.
Ball:
These chains are a popular pendant chain because they have more texture, they have either solid or hollow balls joined with connector bars or sections of wire.
Trace:
The angles of these links can be squared or rounded. This chain comes in open, flat or diamond-cut chain and is lightweight.
Curb chain:
These are made of fine, slightly flattened rings which are usually diamond cut to lay flat and uniform.
Rope chain:
Rope chains are made up of uniform links that are connected to two other links at a time. This design gives the chain a natural twist.
Singapore chain:
These are comprised of small intertwined links that are flattened and twisted. This design has an intense sparkle and an excellent fluidity. Singapore chains can relax into a flat design, but naturally twist on their own.
How do I care for my handmade silver Jewellery?
Jewellery cleaning is important to restore shine and remove any oils or dirt build-up. Many jewellery types can be cleaned with warm water and a mild dish soap. Be careful to use a gentle cloth or toothbrush for cleaning.
Avoid any cleaning products not specifically designed for jewellery. Many cleaners can contain harsh chemicals that can damage precious metals. Dry with a soft paper towel and you could also try a silver cloth to keep them looking shiny.
Precious metals are very sensitive to chemicals, this includes reacting to your skin type as well as the products you put on your skin. If you’re applying perfume, make sure to do so before putting on your jewellery. If your precious metals become exposed to any chemicals, immediately rinse and wash off any residue with a gentle cloth.
Storing your jewellery
When you’re not wearing it, keeping your jewellery in careful storage can help prevent damage and discoloration, try to store out of the light and look for jewellery storage that allows you to have some separation between pieces to avoid tangling or damage.
At Kysam items over £50 receive a free mini polishing cloth however a full size polishing cloth is available to purchase for £4 if required.
